The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media (GDI) is an organization that is influencing content creators to improve gender representation. IF/THEN collaborated with GDI to release a research study and then support the GDI team to influence film, TV, and streaming services with the goal of dramatically improving the portrayal of women and girls in STEM on screen. The report revealed that although women are 51% of the population, they are only 37% of the fictional STEM characters in family entertainment. GDI is distributing the study and its recommendations as a rallying cry for production companies, studios and individual screenwriters to join the movement. Since the report was released in September 2018, GDI has worked with many studios, incorporating more and more unique STEM characters in upcoming film and TV projects.
