STEM Pioneers in Action

IF/THEN® COLLECTION

Transforming the visual world around young people.

The IF/THEN® Collection is the largest free digital library of photos and videos celebrating contemporary women in STEM and their inspiring jobs.

Content commissioned by IF/THEN® is featured on the Collection and designed for use both on and off screens, including 5,000+ digital assets valued at more than $20 million.

The National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) and the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) played critical roles to help launch the Collection in 2020. Through these and other strategic distribution partnerships - from classroom walls to textbooks - content from the IF/THEN® Collection reached an in-person audience of more than 50 million and can be seen at more than 200 science centers across the country.

In 2024, Lyda Hill Philanthropies selected the Museum of Science in Boston to acquire the Collection and manage the platform, which will remain a free resource to educators and for non-commercial use.

American Association of Science and Technology Centers – IF/THEN® Gender Equity Grants

Achieving gender equity in museums and science centers

The Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) and IF/THEN® have awarded over $300,000 to 27 science centers and museums to promote gender equity using the IF/THEN® Gender Representation Toolkit. This innovative resource helps museums assess and improve gender representation in exhibits, websites, programs, and signage, driving meaningful change toward showcasing a more inclusive view of STEM. Museums also gain access to ASTC’s IF/THEN® Project Library, a rich collection of downloadable exhibits and activities celebrating women in STEM.

The IF/THEN® Champions Network, a collaboration between ASTC, the National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP), and Lyda Hill Philanthropies, builds on the success of the IF/THEN® Collection, which has already reached 7 million people through museums. The network unites organizations and individuals committed to advancing gender diversity in STEM. Members receive materials featuring IF/THEN® Ambassadors, such as wall decals, tote bags, and stickers, and benefit from new resources that amplify stories of women in STEM. With 121 members across 73 organizations, the network is growing rapidly, fostering greater inclusion where curiosity and learning thrive.
